Can Perplexity do my 20-year old Engineering Homework?

I'm in the process of preparing to take the FE Exam, which is something that I wish I would have done immediately after graduating college. Unfortunately, I didn't do it then because it wasn't necessary for my post-grad plans.

Long story short, I dug out my old class notes, homework, and exams to use as a study aid. And, as I've gone about studying and refreshing myself, I realized how much the world has changed... For example: if I can't remember how to find the integrating factor for a function in order to solve an ODE, I'd just ask Perplexity. And, instead of asking Perplexity how to find the integrating factor, I'd probably just ask for the solution to the ODE and assume that finding the integrating factor would be one of the steps.

So, as I was going through my old homework, I came across more than a few challenging questions. Back in the day, some of them took me pages and hours or days to solve. I was curious how well Perplexity would do... I was hoping that I could stump her. That hasn't been the case so far.

Note: I'll keep adding more challenging questions as I come across the ones that I thought were difficult back in the good 'ol days.

Numerical Methods in Engineering (ME 360)

So far, Perplexity got 2/2 correct.

This one took Perplexity 35 steps.

52 steps for Perplexity with some confusion along the way but she solved it in less than a minute, which is good considering that it took me 12 pages of math and several hours.

More coming soon...
